What is the Friends of the Recreation Center?
The Friends of the Recreation Center is the community fundraising group dedicated to "ensure the operation and improved future state of the Bayfield Area Recreation Center."  The Friends started in April of 2005 when the School District of Bayfield operated the Rec Center and was talking seriously of closing the facility.  Now that non-profit Recreation and Fitness Resources (RFR) operates and finances the Rec Center, the Friends raise money to support RFR operations.
                             
What is the difference between Recreation and Fitness Resources and the Friends?
Both RFR and the Friends are non-profit organizations dedicated to preserving and enhancing the Bayfield Rec Center.  RFR concentrates on managing and financing the operations, grant writing, and business fundraising.  The Friends of the Rec Center concentrates on organizing community fundraising and activities.

What has the Friends done so far?
The Friends of the Recreation Center have raised $135,625 and created two events--the Bayfield Winter Festival and the Point to LaPointe Swim to Madeline Island--that bring hundreds of visitors to Bayfield.

Can I Join?
Joining is free and is as easy as signing up to be on our email list.  You will receive announcements about future fundraisers and ways to help the Rec Center.  Give us a call at the Rec Center and we'll make sure you get added to our list or email scott@coacharmstrong.com

Does the Rec Center really need my help?
The Rec Center lost $150,000+ per year while under the previous management of the School District.  RFR faces a tremendous challenge to finance the Rec Center.  Fundraising and donations by the Friends is an important part of the overall plan to keep the Rec Center open.
